Sightseeing - Excursions.

Sailing excursions around the Önundarfjörður - Sagas, folklore and nature visited.

Following can be seen during the trip and can be compared to the information on the screen.

Sailing towards Sólbakki where a big whaling station was in operation from 1889-1901.
Sailing over to see special fishing grounds at Holtsoddi where the boat will enter the delta.
Sailing past the old church at Holti, where Brynjólfur Bishop Sveinsson was born in the seventeenth century.
Sailing to the mooring at Holtsfjara that made it possible for rescue groups to save lives when huge snow avalanche hit Flateyr in 1995.
Sailing by a road cut into the mountain of Þorfinnur/Thorfinnur- a road that was made in 1949 and leads out to the valley Valþjófsdalur. Folklore tells it that somewhere up there is a trunk full of gold from Viking era.
Sailing across the fjord towards the northern side of Björg and to Kálfseyri, which for was a fishing base before harbours were created.
Sailing along Klofningsdalur where one can see where people used to track over to Súgandafjord next fjord over before roads were made.
Sailing further around the fjord coming back to Flateyri.

While sailing about Önundarfjörður, one is not only feeling the awesome structures of the mountain range but also able to enjoy the nature of the fjords shores and its bird life, which is perfect for bird watching. There is further information on those birds aboard, so don't forget your binoculars! Whales and seals are also known to poke their head up once in a while, if you're lucky.
